BPL Points Table 2026-27: Standings, Net Run Rate & Qualification
Every BPL season produces the same argument. Two teams finish on the same points, one goes to Qualifier 1 and the other goes into a knockout, and half the country spends the next morning asking how a decimal decided it. That decimal is net run rate, and it is the least understood number in cricket.
So how does the BPL points table work? Teams get 2 points for a win, 1 point each if a match ends without a result, and nothing for a loss. The six sides are ranked by points first, then by net run rate. The top four qualify for the playoffs, and the top two get a second chance if they lose their first knockout game.

How the BPL Points System Works
The scoring is simple enough that most fans never think about it. It becomes interesting only when the table gets tight.

Why a rained-off match hurts more than it looks
A washed-out game gives both sides one point instead of two. For a team chasing a playoff place, that is effectively a half-loss.
It also leaves your net run rate frozen while everyone else keeps playing. You cannot improve a number that has no new data going into it.
BPL matches rarely get washed out because the tournament runs in the dry season. Fog and dew are the bigger problems, and neither of them cancels a game.
What happens if teams tie on points
The tie-breaker order is points, then net run rate. If two teams are somehow level on both, head-to-head results come into play.
This has decided a BPL season more than once. It decided one last year, and we will come back to that below because it is the clearest example anyone could ask for.
Net Run Rate Explained Simply
Net run rate is the run rate you scored at across the whole tournament, minus the run rate you conceded across the whole tournament. That is the entire formula.
The basic calculation
Add up every run your team has scored all season. Divide by the total overs you faced. That gives your scoring rate.
Then add up every run you have conceded, divide by the total overs you bowled, and that gives your conceding rate. Subtract the second number from the first.
A positive number means you generally outscore opponents. A negative number means the opposite. In BPL 2026, Rajshahi Warriors finished on 0.335 and Noakhali Express finished on −1.038.
The rule that catches everyone out
Here is the part almost nobody knows. If your team is bowled out before the 20 overs are up, the calculation still uses the full 20 overs.
So if you are dismissed for 90 in 14 overs, your run rate for that match is not 90 divided by 14. It is 90 divided by 20, which is far worse.
That single rule is why collapses damage a season so badly. Noakhali Express were bowled out for 61 in 14.2 overs against Sylhet Titans, and the calculation treated that as 61 runs from 20 overs.
The same rule works in your favour
When you bowl a team out cheaply, you get credit for the full 20 overs of conceding, not the shorter time it actually took. Bowling a side out for 100 in 15 overs helps your net run rate more than restricting them to 130 for 8 in 20.
That is why teams keep attacking for wickets even when a win looks certain. It is not showing off, it is arithmetic.
Chasing teams get less benefit
If you chase a target in 15 overs, only those 15 overs count for you. There is no bonus for finishing early, though a fast chase does raise your scoring rate.
So the biggest net run rate swings come from bowling teams out, not from quick chases. Worth knowing when you are watching a dead rubber and wondering why the fielding side still has three slips in.
Why teams keep swinging in a lost cause
You will see a side chasing 190, sitting at 60 for 6, and still hitting out. It looks reckless. It usually is not.
Losing by 40 runs instead of 90 protects net run rate. Three weeks later that difference can be the thing that puts you in Qualifier 1 rather than the Eliminator.

This is how the last completed season finished. It is worth studying because it shows exactly what net run rate does to a season.

The season net run rate decided
Look at rows two and three. Chattogram Royals and Rangpur Riders both finished with 6 wins, 4 losses and 12 points.
Chattogram had a net run rate of 0.497. Rangpur had 0.220. That gap of roughly a quarter of a run put Chattogram into Qualifier 1 and Rangpur into the Eliminator.
Chattogram then won Qualifier 1, reached the final, and finished as runners-up. Rangpur lost the Eliminator to Sylhet Titans and were out in one afternoon.
Same points. Same win-loss record. Completely different seasons.
Where Rangpur lost that decimal
Bottom side Noakhali Express beat Rangpur by 9 runs, defending 148. Losing to the weakest team in the tournament costs points and net run rate at the same time.
Rangpur also managed only 111 for 9 in the Eliminator itself. Low totals had been a problem all season, and the table showed it before the knockout did.
The oddity in third and fourth
Notice that Rangpur finished third in the league table but fourth overall, while Sylhet finished fourth in the table but third overall. That is because Sylhet won the Eliminator and Rangpur lost it.
League position and final position are two different things in a playoff tournament. Plenty of sites confuse them.
How Playoff Qualification Works
The top four teams from the league table go through. What happens next depends heavily on whether you finished in the top two.

The value of a top-two finish
Finishing first or second gives you two chances at reaching the final. Finishing third or fourth gives you one knockout game and no safety net.
BPL 2026 gave the clearest example anyone could ask for. Rajshahi Warriors topped the table with 8 wins from 10, then lost Qualifier 1 to Chattogram Royals.
Under any other structure they would have been eliminated as champions-elect. Instead they got Qualifier 2, beat Sylhet Titans by 12 runs, reached the final and won the title by 63 runs.
Their whole season was saved by a rule they only needed because they finished first. That is the argument for chasing net run rate from day one.
The load on the Qualifier 2 route
Coming through Qualifier 2 means playing three knockout matches in roughly five days. Fast bowlers feel it most, and squads without depth start looking thin.
Sylhet Titans played the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 within three days in BPL 2026. They lost the second one by 12 runs, which is exactly the kind of margin that tiredness produces.
Reading the Table Through a Season
The points table looks different depending on which week of the tournament you are in. Knowing what to look for saves a lot of confusion.
Weeks one and two
Early net run rate figures are almost meaningless. One heavy defeat in a three-match sample produces a number that looks catastrophic and disappears within a week.
Ignore the decimals at this stage and watch the wins column. Two wins from three is a good start regardless of margins.
The middle third
This is when net run rate starts mattering. By match six or seven, the sample is big enough that a bad figure is hard to repair.
Teams sitting on 6 points with a negative net run rate at this point are in real trouble, because they now need both wins and big wins.
The final week
By the last two rounds, most fans are doing qualification maths. The common questions are whether a team can still qualify on 10 points and what margin they need.
The honest answer is that 12 points has been enough in the six-team format and 10 points can be enough with a strong net run rate. Sylhet Titans qualified on 10 points in BPL 2026 with a figure of 0.373.
What to watch on the last day
Two things decide late qualification. First, whether the teams above you play each other, because one of them has to lose. Second, whether your remaining opponents already have nothing to play for.
A side already eliminated will still spoil someone’s season. Noakhali Express finished bottom and still knocked a serious dent in Rangpur’s net run rate.
Points Table Records and Patterns
A few things stay true across recent BPL seasons and are worth knowing before you start reading standings.
Sixteen points usually tops the table
Rajshahi Warriors topped BPL 2026 on 16 points from 10 matches. In a six-team, ten-match format, 16 points is normally enough for first place and 14 is normally enough for the top two.
Twelve points is the qualification line
Two teams finished on 12 points in BPL 2026 and both qualified. Ten points got Sylhet Titans in as the fourth side, which is the lowest total that has worked recently.
Negative net run rate almost never qualifies
Dhaka Capitals finished on −0.381 and Noakhali Express on −1.038. Neither came close. In a short league, a negative figure by the halfway point is usually terminal.
Winning early matters more than it should
Rangpur Riders won their first eight matches in BPL 2025 and still went out in the Eliminator. That is the exception rather than the rule, though, and it is remembered precisely because it is so unusual.
Most seasons, the team that starts well finishes well. The schedule is too short for a slow starter to recover.
Common Points Table Mistakes
Three errors turn up constantly in BPL coverage, and two of them appear on sites that should know better.
Mixing up league position and final position
Rangpur Riders finished third in the BPL 2026 league table and fourth overall. Sylhet Titans finished fourth in the table and third overall.
Both statements are correct because the playoffs reorder everything. A site that lists Rangpur as third for the season is quoting the league table, not the result.
Assuming the top team always wins
Topping the table is an advantage, not a guarantee. Rajshahi Warriors finished first, lost Qualifier 1, and needed Qualifier 2 to reach the final at all.
Treating net run rate as a tie-breaker only
Net run rate is not something that only matters when points are level. It is running from the first ball of the season and quietly shaping where you finish.
Teams that treat it as an afterthought until the last week have already lost the ground they needed.
Copying old tables without checking the franchises
BPL team names change constantly. Four of the six sides in BPL 2026 were new or renamed, and Comilla Victorians, Fortune Barishal and Khulna Tigers did not play at all.

Rajshahi Warriors

Chattogram Royals
Six wins and the best net run rate in the tournament at 0.497, achieved by a team that lost its owners the day before the season started. Shoriful Islam took 26 wickets, a record for a single BPL season.
Rangpur Riders
Six wins, 12 points, and a net run rate that cost them everything. Towhid Hridoy scored 382 runs and Mustafizur Rahman took 16 wickets in a side that should have gone further.
Sylhet Titans
Five wins, five losses, and a net run rate of 0.373 that carried them into fourth. Parvez Hossain Emon topped the whole tournament with 395 runs.
Dhaka Capitals
Three wins and a leading run scorer who managed 169 across ten matches. The Dhaka Capitals batting was the clearest weakness in the league.
Noakhali Express
Two wins in a debut season assembled in about six weeks. Their net run rate of −1.038 was the worst in the tournament by a distance.
