Chattogram Royals: BPL Squad, Schedule, Players List, History & Results
One day before BPL 2026 started, the Chattogram Royals lost their owners. Not a sponsor, not a coach, the actual owners. The players found out the day before their first match, the Bangladesh Cricket Board took over the running of the team, and they had no overseas players available at all.
They then reached the final. The Chattogram Royals are the BPL’s Chattogram-based franchise, captained by all-rounder Mahedi Hasan, coached by Mizanur Rahman Babul, and they finished as runners-up in BPL 2026 after losing to Rajshahi Warriors by 63 runs on 23 January 2026. It was the third time a Chattogram team has reached a BPL final without winning one.

This page covers the full squad, the franchise’s twelve seasons under four different names, and what the 2027 season might look like.

How Many Players Are in the Chattogram Royals Squad?
The Royals named 22 players at the BPL 2026 draft: 14 Bangladeshi cricketers and 8 overseas signings. That is a slightly leaner squad than most rivals carried.
The complication is that the squad on paper and the squad on the field were not the same thing. When Triangle Services Limited pulled out on 25 December 2025, the day before the tournament, most of the drafted overseas players never arrived.
Chattogram played their opening match with no overseas players at all. Pakistan’s Mirza Baig and Afghanistan’s Masood Gurbaz were added afterwards, followed by England’s Adam Rossington and Pakistan all-rounder Aamir Jamal.
Captain Mahedi Hasan was blunt about it afterwards, saying he had never known an environment like it at any franchise. He also thought it was better to happen before the tournament than halfway through, which is a very captain way of looking at things.
How many matches did they play?
Chattogram played 12 matches in BPL 2026. Ten in the league stage, then Qualifier 1, then the final.
They took the short route. Winning Qualifier 1 sent them straight through and gave them four days of rest while Rajshahi Warriors had to play Qualifier 2 to join them. On paper that was the ideal preparation, which makes the final result even harder to explain.
Every team plays 10 league matches in the six-team format, facing each rival twice. Our BPL Schedule 2026-27 page explains the full playoff structure.

This second table is the one most sites leave out, and it is the more useful one. The drafted overseas list tells you what the Royals planned; the replacement list tells you who actually won them matches.
Captain: Mahedi Hasan
Mahedi was the franchise’s first signing, brought in before the draft even happened. He is an off-spinning all-rounder who bowls in the powerplay, which is a rarer skill than it sounds.
He led a team that had no money, no owners and no overseas players in its opening week, and still took it to the final. Whatever you think of the cricket, that is a serious piece of captaincy.
He also delivered with bat and ball at key moments, including a match-winning all-round performance during the run-in.
Key players
Shoriful Islam, Player of the Series
Shoriful Islam was the story of the season. The left-arm quick took 26 wickets, the most in the entire tournament, and was named Player of the Series.
It was also a new record for the most wickets in a single BPL season, and he did it for a team in financial chaos. Left-arm pace with a reliable yorker is the most wanted commodity in T20 cricket right now.
Mohammad Naim, the record local buy
Mohammad Naim was the most expensive local player in the whole BPL 2026 auction, going for 1.10 crore Bangladeshi taka. He repaid it with 272 runs, the most for Chattogram.
The late arrivals who delivered
Adam Rossington arrived late and still finished with 9 wicketkeeping dismissals, the most for the team. Aamir Jamal took 7 catches, also a team high.
Chattogram Royals History: Season 1 to Season 12
A Chattogram side has played in every single BPL season since 2012. That is a record only a handful of franchises can claim, and it comes with four name changes and several ownership collapses.

Twelve seasons, three finals, zero titles. Chattogram supporters have earned the right to be a bit tired.
The Chittagong Kings years, 2012 to 2014
The franchise joined as one of the original BPL members in 2012, owned by SQ Sports. The 2013 season produced their first final, with Mahmudullah captaining and Khaled Mahmud coaching.
They lost that final to Dhaka Gladiators. Not long afterwards SQ Sports was charged over fixing and delayed player payments and banned from cricket activity, along with several other original franchise owners.
The Chittagong Vikings years, 2015 to 2019
After the ownership scandal, DBL Sports took over and the team became the Chittagong Vikings. Four seasons followed without a final appearance.
DBL Sports ended their involvement in 2019, which triggered yet another rebrand. This pattern of an owner arriving, staying three or four years and leaving is basically the franchise’s whole story.
The Chattogram Challengers years, 2019 to 2024
Six seasons under the Challengers name, no finals. The team was usually competitive in the league stage without ever putting together a proper playoff run.
This was also the longest period of stability the franchise has had, which tells you something about how unstable the rest of it has been.
Back to Kings, then Royals, 2025 and 2026
The team reverted to Chittagong Kings for 2025 and reached the final, losing to Fortune Barishal. It was their first final in twelve years.
For 2025-26 the name changed again to Chattogram Royals, with Triangle Services Limited taking ownership. Wikipedia notes the current team carries no direct continuity with the older Chattogram franchises, which is a polite way of saying the paperwork has been reset more than once.
BPL 2026 Season Review: The Season That Should Not Have Worked
Triangle Services assembled a decent squad at the November auction, including the most expensive local player in Mohammad Naim. Then on 25 December, the day before the opening match, they terminated their ownership.
The stated reason was that media reports had made it impossible to find sponsors. The BCB stepped in and ran the team directly for the rest of the tournament.

The opening match
Chattogram beat Noakhali Express by 65 runs at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, scoring 174 and bowling Noakhali out for 109. They did it with an all-local eleven.
Mahedi spoke afterwards about the difficulty of playing while the management situation was unresolved. His line was that once you cross the rope, the only thing you can think about is the game.

Qualifier 1: the win that booked the final
Second place put the Royals into Qualifier 1 against table-toppers Rajshahi Warriors. They bowled Rajshahi out for 133, then chased it down for the loss of four wickets with three balls remaining.
Mahedi Hasan and Mirza Baig did the damage. That result sent Chattogram straight to a third BPL final and pushed the eventual champions into Qualifier 2.
The final
Where the chase fell apart
Chattogram won the toss and put Rajshahi in. Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored a century and Rajshahi finished on 174 for 4.
The chase never started properly. Chattogram were bowled out for 111 in 17.5 overs, with Binura Fernando taking 4 for 9, and lost by 63 runs.
Three finals in twelve seasons and still no trophy. At some point that stops being bad luck.

Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium: The Chattogram Home
The Royals list the Bir Shrestha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium as their official home ground. In practice, BPL matches in Chattogram are played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, known locally as the Sagorika ground.
It has a capacity of roughly 22,000 and opened for international cricket in 2006. The playing area is large, the outfield is fast, and the surface is the truest of the three BPL venues.
Sea breeze is a genuine factor here in the evening. Swing bowlers get more out of the new ball than they do at Mirpur, so opening spells matter.
Batters generally enjoy Chattogram. The bounce is even, the ball comes on to the bat, and the highest team totals of a typical BPL season are usually scored at this ground.
Square boundaries run slightly longer than straight ones. Players who hit down the ground do better here than pull-shot specialists, which is a small thing that shows up in the numbers season after season.
During BPL 2026 the Chattogram leg was eventually dropped from the revised schedule after a period of national mourning, so the Royals did not get their full home run. More on the grounds in our BPL Venues guide.
What to Expect from Chattogram Royals in BPL 2027
The cricket is not the problem here. A team that reached the final without owners for most of the season clearly has enough players.
Ownership is the problem. The franchise has now had SQ Sports banned, DBL Sports withdraw, and Triangle Services walk out the night before a tournament. Until someone stays for five years, the pattern continues.
On the playing side, Shoriful Islam is the name every franchise will chase after 26 wickets and a Player of the Series award. Keeping him would be the single biggest win of the next draft.
Mahedi Hasan should stay as captain if the franchise survives in its current form. He has the respect of the dressing room and a proven record of leading through chaos.
We update this page with confirmed ownership, retentions and squad news as it lands. Full player lists go on our BPL Squads hub as well.
